Telecollaboration and Project Based Training

I just finished another course in the Ed Tech program at San Diego State called " Advanced Teaching with Tech." Being that the class is called "Advanced Teaching with Tech," I thought we would dive deeper into using technology but unfortunately we didn't dive much deeper than Google Apps and Questgarden. However, I did pick up some new instructional design skills that I will be able to apply at work right away.

Down But Not Quite Out: what can we learn from the plights of Learning Tree International and Readers Digest?

Performance Learning Productivity

These turbulent economic times have not been kind to two of the large publishers of catalogues and journals - Reader's Digest and Learning Tree International. Of course, Learning Tree International's business is selling face-to-face courses, but most of us will have had the Learning Tree catalogue 'brick' of courses dropping onto our desks on a regular basis for many years.

Filtered RSS Feed

Experiencing eLearning

Partly due to a request from Tony Karrer for eLearning Learning and partly because others have asked in the past, I did a little research on how to filter an RSS feed so I can provide a feed without the daily bookmarks posts. If you’re interested in that, here’s the RSS feed without bookmarks and the link for subscribing via email. In the past, I’ve tried using PostRank for a similar purpose, but that didn’t quite do what I wanted.

The Learning Continuum – Using the PDR Design Model

Living in Learning

Many of us cut our professional learning design teeth using the long-held tradition of the ADDIE instructional design (ISD) model. In our blogosphere I have heard how “old school”, and in some cases, how obsolete this foundational design model from the 1960s has become. If age denotes obsolescence, then I am in trouble for sure. Obsolescence can be averted when a willingness to change, a willingness to re-think, to re-apply proven methodologies is baked into the model.

Five Myths of Mobile Learning

I’ve been occupied with writing a paper to promote the adoption of mobile learning amongst corporates and enterprises. While trawling through multiple web-links, a pattern of myths about mobile learning emerges. There are plenty of great authoring tools for developing eLearning, but the one you select could directly impact your course's outcomes. The Performance Environment

Clark Quinn

I’ve represented the performance ecosystem in several ways in the past, and that process continues to occur. In the process of writing up a proposal to do some social learning strategizing for an organization, I started thinking about it from the performer perspective. Now, personal learning environments (PLE) is not a completely new concept, and quite a number of folks contributed their PLEs here.

Using Captivate 4's System Variables

Integrated Learnings

One of the new features of Captivate 4 is the ability to access and use system variables. I recently was able to explore how these might be used to turn on and off the navigation bar within the skin of my Captivate lesson. Many designers include assessments within their Captivate lessons. During the informational and practice portions of the lesson, the students can use the navigation bar included with the Captivate skin to proceed through the lesson.
