Implementing New Learning Technology? Choose the Right Pilot Group

Kapp Notes

Before a large scale implementation of any new learning technology, you really need to run a pilot group. You need to catch problems on a small scale and then adjust, correct and modify based on the feedback and experience of the pilot group. Skipping a pilot of a new technology is a dangerous gamble. It could be, as they say, "career limiting." So I suggest a carefully chosen pilot group, but, you might ask, what does that pilot group "look like"?

The Ten Commandments of eLearning

Upside Learning

We discovered ‘The Ten Commandments of eLearning” as elucidated by Cath Ellis and Clive Shepherd. We’ve decided to follow in the same vein and list our commandments. First off, we thought ten is too many to remember, so we cut it down to five. There are some similarities to Cath and Clive’s commandments but that is to be expected given the nature of this post. 1.

Some questions from blog readers have alerted me to the fact that when Apple “upgraded&# Keynote 08 to create Keynote 09, they removed the ability to export slideshows as interactive Flash files. There are plenty of great authoring tools for developing eLearning, but the one you select could directly impact your course's outcomes. ID Reflections

Why am I writing about Twitter? Because it is a powerful social networking tool that is fast becoming a social learning tool. The connotation of the word social is changing from one of "connect" to bring into its fold other meanings like collaborate, learn, share, give, participate, hear, be heard, ask, be answered. This is not a litany in praise of Twitter--it is in support of all social networking sites (SNS) that will help us to collaborate and build collective knowledge.

eLearning Outsourcing to India will reach USD 603 million by 2012

I have always believed that the present economic slowdown would positively benefit the eLearning industry in the long run. There have been several recent surveys to suggest the same (two of them are mentioned in the latter half of this post) and now, a ValueNotes report released in May 2009 specifically examines the status of the Indian eLearning outsourcing industry and predicts a high rate of growth until 2012, despite the current recession.

Whether face-to-face or online, gaining attention is a crucial element to course design. This element is prevalent in both Gagne's 9 Elements and Keller's ARCS Mode l. The important thing to consider in implementing this element is that it does not need to be a single occurrence at the start of course, but can be integrated throughout the course. And it must have a learning objective and/or reinforce the content at hand.
