Rapid Authoring Tools For Creating mLearning

Upside Learning

After a few years of hype, mobile learning has now started flourishing; the advent of new generation of mobile devices, high-speed network access, powerful mobile browsers and better native apps are all contributing to this. There is still a lack of standardization across devices and amongst networks across geographical areas resulting in mlearning content development being somewhat constrained.

10 Minutes of Motivation Research

Experiencing eLearning

Daniel Pink shared this animated whiteboard video explaining some of the research and ideas from his book Drive. Pink’s ideas have been applied to learning by others, but the basic idea is that for all but the simplest tasks, people aren’t motivated well by big monetary rewards. What rewards people is autonomy, mastery, and purpose. This, of course, has implications for instructional design.

eLearning & mLearning: Using Color in Learning

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by AJ George I've previously written about how to effectively use fonts to convey ideas and emotions in your eLearning courses. Effective use of color is equally important and is often overlooked and under utilized. What is the purpose of your eLearning course? Are you presenting somber, factual material? Are you welcoming new employees? Maybe you are passing along important factual information that will need to memorized?

Integrated Learnings

By Shelley A. Gable. You’re tasked with outlining an eLearning lesson. You’ve analyzed your content and audience, and you have a clear understanding of what learners need to be able to do by the end of the lesson. A handful of instructional design models offer formulas for assembling training in a way that captures learners’ attention, conveys content, and provides learners with a

Writing & Grammar: "If I Were" or "If I Was?"

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Jennie Ruby. How many times have you heard someone say "If I was you"? In some regions of the country, you might hear it every day. This popular expression, however, is grammatically wrong. The correct grammar is "If I were you." The correct use of were  in this expression is an example of the subjunctive: the use of an unusual verb form to indicate that there is something iffy about what is being said.

A Question about 3D Virtual Worlds that makes me Crazy

Kapp Notes

Constantly I am asked this question about 3D that really make me crazy. Here is my short rant. 1) Where is the empirical data about the effectiveness of 3D learning? We can't do anything until we see the evidence of its effectiveness for learning. Seems valid. Let's see, I must have the evidence of the effectiveness of 3D learning under my pile of reports on the effectiveness of classroom instruction.

Rapid eLearning Through Software Simulations And Screencasts

Upside Learning

Previously when I discussed freeform and template-based rapid content authoring tools, I kept software simulation tools aside. The main reason was that such simulation tools are not always used for developing just any type of learning but focused on training content creation for a specific software application or system. The software simulation in turn, can be divided into screen capturing tools and interactive simulation development tools.
